The Peoples Democratic Party has fixed its presidential primaries for December 6, 2014. This was made known to the media by the PDP national publicity secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, who also said the primaries for governorship is for November 29 and National Assembly primaries for November 22.
These were the proposals arrived at by the party ahead of its NEC meeting which will ratify the dates. The PDP caucus had met Tuesday at the Presidential Villa ahead of the NEC, while the Board of Trustees of the party (BoT) met on Wednesday night also at the villa.
In a related development the PDP Governors Forum has finally endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan as the sole candidate of the party ahead of the party’s December 6 primaries. The governors, including some deputies numbering 18, arrived at the decision on Wednesdau ahead of the party’s NEC meeting which is very likely to adopt the resolution of the governors.
Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, a presidential hopeful, was not present at the meeting of the governors. His deputy was, however, at the meeting.
Reading the communique of the governors after a three-hour meeting, chairman of the forum and governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio, urged all PDP faithful to support the gesture which he said should enable the president to become the sole candidate of the party come 2015.
