Pope Francis urges muslims to condemn extremism

Pope Francis called Sunday for Muslims and all religious leaders to condemn Islamic extremists who “pervert” religion to justify violence, as he visited Albania and held up the Balkan nation as a model for interfaith harmony for the rest of the world.

“To kill in the name of God is a grave sacrilege. To discriminate in the name of God is inhuman,” Francis told representatives of Albania’s Muslim, Orthodox and Catholic communities during a half-day visit to Tirana in which he recalled the brutal persecution people of all faiths suffered under communism.

Francis wept when he heard the testimony of one priest, the Rev. Ernest Troshani, 84, who for 28 years was imprisoned, tortured and sentenced to forced labor for refusing to speak out against the Catholic Church as his captors wanted.

“Today I touched the martyrs,” Francis said after embracing the man.

Banks in Nigeria to pay customers for using e-payment channels

[Punch] The Central Bank of Nigeria says it has approved an industry-wide incentive scheme and awareness campaign on electronic payment channels for stakeholders and users.

As a result, the CBN is collaborating with Deposit Money Banks through the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc to work out a system that will make banks to pay customers, merchants and salespersons for using electronic payment channels.

Some analysts see this as a gradual paradigm shift from the CBN’s punitive approach in driving the cashless policy to an incentive-based one.

The Electronic Payments Incentives Scheme will make bank customers, merchants and salespersons receive cash and gift rewards for using electronic payment channels.

The scheme will commence in batches, starting from November 1, 2014.

Boko Haram leader, Shekau Dead?

Once again, there were speculations yesterday that the ruthless kingpin of the Boko Haram terror gang, Abubakar Shekau, might be one of the casualties in the military raid of Konduga, Borno State, which also resulted in the killing of about 60 insurgents.

Late last year, the military authorities had said that Shekau was killed in an operation in June, after he was believed to have been fatally wounded.

He later resurfaced in a video footage, which his gang posted on the internet.

But yesterday, unconfirmed reports had it that security agencies are currently reviewing information that Shekau may have been killed in the battle with the military near Konduga.

In the Konduga battle, no fewer than 60 Boko Haram militants, according to the military, were killed while one its leaders was reportedly captured alive. The captive, whose name was not made public, is however reported to be receiving treatment in an undisclosed military facility.

Meanwhile, there were agency reports yesterday that dozens of people had been killed by Boko Haram militants at a local market in Mainok area of Borno State.

The attackers reportedly raided the market – about 56 km from Maiduguri – while buying and selling were at the peak, according to an eyewitness, Alhaji Bello Adamu. He said at least 21 people were killed in the attack which lasted about one hour.

The attackers also reportedly carted away money and wares as they ransacked stores in the local market.

Military authorities were yet to react to the story as at the time of filing this report, but a source claimed that a detachment of troops had been deployed to the area.

'How can we make the most expensive pair of shoes in the world and make this finale special?' he asked me.We didn’t want him looking like Frankenstein when he walked, we still needed to consider functionality. He’s not going to win a race or play basketball with these. It’s still a piece of jewelry. As long as he’s not too overly aggressive in the shoes, everything should be all right.'

LADIES, Examine your breasts, prevent cancer

Breast cancer is the cancer killing women of various ages right now. Interestingly, it is also the cancer with the highest rate of survival. However, for that to happen, it depends on the woman.

Oncologists (cancer care specialists) note that the diagnosis of breast cancer starts with the patient who is observant and takes action when necessary.

Professor of Oncology and Radiation with the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, Ifeoma Okoye, notes that a major reason why women who had breast cancer in the past died despite access to treatment is late presentation at the hospital with the disease.

Okoye explains that majority of the cases of breast cancer in the country are often detected at a later stage when treatment and recovery are impossible. She attributes this trend of late detection to poor awareness and education on the part of the women, such that women do not even recognise the signs and symptoms of breast cancer when it is staring them right in the face.

67 South Africans died in Synagogue building collapse - President Zuma

As the death toll in the collapsed building of the Synagogue Church of All Nation (SCOAN) continues to rise, South African President, Jacob Zuma, yesterday said 67 South Africans have been confirmed dead in the disaster.

Zuma’s disclosure has however, raised questions about the figure of 63 casualties released by the emergency agencies especially by the Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

He said: “I am greatly saddened to announce that 67 South Africans died and scores of others sustained injuries. This is a particularly a difficult time for South Africa.

“Our thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues who have lost their loved ones in this heart-breaking tragedy.

“The whole nation shares the pain of the mothers, fathers, daughters and sons who have lost their loved ones. We are all in grief.

“We have directed relevant government departments and entities to act with the utmost urgency to ensure that the presidency facilitate the movement of relevant family members to Nigeria, to identify the bodies.

“Government will keep the public informed of developments around this tragedy. We pledge that the government would provide all the necessary support to affected families.”

Scientists prove there is indeed Life after death >>>>>

A team of psychologists and medical doctors at the Technische Universität of Berlin, have announced that they had proven by clinical experimentation, the existence of some form of life after death.

According to worldnewsdailyreport.com ,they used a new type of medically supervised near-death experiences, that allow patients to be clinically dead for almost 20 minutes before being brought back to life. This controversial process that was repeated on 944 volunteers over the last four years.

The volunteers were made up of members of variety of Christian churches, Muslims, Jews, Hindus and atheists.

Although there are some slight variations from one individual to another, all of the subjects have some memories of their period of clinical death.

Most common memories include a feeling of detachment from the body, feelings of levitation, total serenity, security, warmth, the experience of absolute dissolution, and the presence of an overwhelming light.

“I know our results could disturb the beliefs of many people” says Mr Ackermann. “But in a way, we have just answered one of the greatest questions in the history of mankind, so I hope these people will be able to forgive us. Yes, there is life after death and it looks like this applies to everyone.”

Does it matter if your man refuses to wear his wedding ring?

I want us to reason together, guys. A lady who has had affairs with a lot of married men actually made this statement - according to her, the reason she even talked to these married men she dated in the first place was because not one wore a wedding ring. Later, after she’d slept with them, they’d tell her they were married, and when she asked why they didn’t wear rings, they all gave the same explanation: “I just don’t like jewelry.” After she said this, she shook her head wryly and said:

“All those married women out there whose husbands aren’t wearing rings should be worried. It’s never an innocent choice.”You find out that when you ask these men who choose to go bandless, without their wedding rings, they insist they are doing it for a more innocuous reason than adulterous intentions: an unwillingness to be publicly defined by their marital state. They want to be seen as people before they are seen as married, which presumes that one cannot be both. And when they are asked if they would allow their wives not wear theirs too, they're like - "why won't she? What message is she passing across?"

Reallyy??? What do you think, guys?

Dear lovely, very sweet, handsome married men, do you wear your wedding rings? If no, why don't you? Remember no one is judging your decision. Let's read what you think.

Single men: are you also planning to not wear your ring after your wedding?

Sweet ladies, what's your man doing? Hubby, fiancé, boyfriend. Is his ring on or off? And do you mind that he's not wearing it?

What's wrong with this Photo?

PHOTO of the DAY: Campaign slogan of Life

A Pro-GEJ group called 'Goodluck Initiative For Transformation' apparently put this together and spread it around Abuja. People are condemning the use of the slogan as they feel its insensitive and a mockery of the #bringbackourgirls campaign. What do you think?

Photos: Inside Joan Rivers' $35m lavish New York home

Opulent: The drawing room in Joan Rivers' Upper East Side condo is a sea of pink and gold velvet, with a grand piano in the corner, lit by three glittering chandeliers

Guys, check out these photos from Joan Rivers' New York home. Dripping with chandeliers and lined with gold, the limestone mansion was built in 1910 for society figure John R Drexel and his socialite wife. Finally, in the 1980s, Rivers descended on the lavish property, called in developers to strip away layers of paint and coat it with gold.

Joan's living room ceilings scaled 30ft-high, and velvet drapes framed the vast windows. The 5,000-square-foot penthouse is held up by gold pillars. And in every corner of the opulent New York apartment sit stacks of index cards with jokes spanning her entire career.

The comedienne, who died last week at the age of 81, once described the Upper East Side condo as 'where Marie Antoinette would have lived if she had the money'.

Scroll down to see more photos. And you know how we do it here - you are sooo allowed to drool and tell. *winks*

The New York apartment lined with pillars and mirrors is a star of the city, valued at around $35 million

Elegant: The bedroom, complete with a four poster bed and lacy drapes and a permanent stock of fresh lillies,
Backstage: She prepared for every day as if she was going to perform, starting in this bulb-lined bathroom which resembled backstage at a theater

Painstaking: Never one to emerge without a full face of make-up, Joan had an extensive collection of eyeliner, lip liner, eyelash curlers and mascara in little silver pots

Tributes: Bouquets of flowers have been lain across the marble stairs outside the cast iron front door of the Manhattan apartment following Rivers' death
